Pūhara Mana Tangata

Pūhara Mana Tangata was established in late 2019 to advise the Chief Ombudsman in his work with Māori.

It is a panel made up of senior and rangatahi leaders from throughout Te Ao Māori.

The panel’s work

Pūhara Mana Tangata provides guidance on engagement and communications on matters that impact Māori, and promotes the role of Ombudsman as an independent watchdog for Parliament to wider Māori audiences.

The panel is not directly involved in any investigative work.

What does Pūhara Mana Tangata mean?

Pūhara means watchtower and conveys the Ombudsman's role in ensuring fairness for all.

Mana Tangata refers to the Ombudsman’s guardianship role in protecting people’s rights.
